Happy Pet Palaces

I already have a pet door

By already having a pet door in place, you have already made the decision of generally where you would like the enclosure to be. However, there may be options you did not know you had at the time you purchased and installed your pet door. Here are some suggestions for alternatives that you may not have considered.

Most pet door customers believe the only ones offered are for sliding glass doors, however, there are also pet doors for windows as well. The reason that most retail pet stores do not offer them is that they come in 2” increment sizes in height and width. That results in a lot of permutations that they would have to keep in stock for them to be realistically sold. This is where the Internet comes to the rescue. There are a number of online vendors offering pet doors for windows. Having access through a window to the enclosure offers alternatives and variety to the setup.

Lastly for pet owners with pet doors included in their sliding glass door, many people do not know that the part that doesn’t slide can be moved to accommodate the pet door on the other side of the sliding glass door. This gives you more room to use your half of the door and the enclosure connection can be on the other side of the sliding glass door. You can also keep the original hardware for the sliding glass door lock and throw the adapter that came with the pet door away.

As you can imagine, determining the location of the connection can be confusing. For no charge, I offer a FaceTime (or equivalent) consultation to help you find that perfect spot for the enclosure. If you live in Southern California, I can come by and discuss a location with you.
